Miss a day. See what each number does.

One daily habit, tracked for a year. Choose how many days you miss and where they fall. One panel is a streak counter. The other is Habit Strength. Streaks make it look like every miss takes you back to square one. Strength shows that a miss doesn't erase the progress you made.

12 missed days = 12 resets. Longest run: 30 days, shortest run: 14 days. A long streak builds momentum; a short one can break it and even make you quit, especially when the misses land back to back.

Day 365: 96%, the Mastered stage. The climb still runs from Starting up through Established and Mastered. No matter how the misses are distributed, Strength will always show your real habit maturity.

On the 4-week read a missed day costs four points, held for four weeks, then gone.

Twelve misses. Twelve resets; best run 30 days. Strength on day 365, 4-week window: 96%, Mastered.

How to read it

The streak counter

It counts days in a row. A missed day sets it to zero. The next day starts again at one. Twelve misses in a year is twelve zeros, however good the other 353 days were.

Habit Strength

It is the percentage of scheduled days you completed, read over the stretch you choose. A missed day lowers it a little. Every day you showed up keeps counting. The percentage sits on one of the five rungs. The Habit Strength page prints each rung and its range.

A count, or a stage?

Here is the difference that matters. A streak is a count: thirty, then zero, then one again. A count can't tell a seedling habit from a seasoned one. Thirty days in a row reads the same whether you started last month or years ago. Habit Strength is a stage. It names where the habit stands: Starting, Developing, Building, Established, Mastered. You always know whether it is taking root or well grown. That is the job a streak can't do.

Why Strength starts low

The reading always covers the whole stretch: four weeks, or ninety days. The days before you started count as days not done, so a new habit begins near the bottom and climbs as it fills the window. Read it over ninety days and the climb is slower: ninety days is more to earn than four weeks.

The ladder itself is on the Habit Strength page, and every rule behind it is on the help pages. If a number here looks wrong, write to us. The person who built it answers.
